Can't open ChatGPT or Claude?

Does the ChatGPT website fail to load, or does browsing work while Claude Code cannot connect? Start with the symptom, then check the client, terminal proxy and service response. Includes Mac / Linux and Windows PowerShell examples.

The short version

  1. Check the service itself firstOpen the OpenAI or Anthropic status page. During an outage, switching nodes won't help.
  2. A page that won't load is usually the networkThe proxy is off, the node is down, or a rule isn't sending it through the proxy.
  3. For sign-in failures, check the request and account messageA page can load while its authentication request fails. Follow official guidance for region, eligibility and identity messages.
  4. A working browser doesn't mean your terminal worksClaude Code, Cursor and API calls each need their own proxy setting.

What are you seeing?

Page won't load? Check three things

  1. Check the status pageOpenAI and Anthropic both publish a status page. If it shows an incident, wait for the fix.
  2. Is the proxy on and the plan active?Open Shadowrocket or Clash. Make sure it's connected, the plan hasn't expired and data remains. Load an ordinary website first to confirm the connection works; if HY2 times out, try Trojan.
  3. Are the exit and rules right?Check the browser exit, refresh the target page, and inspect the domain, matched rule and node in the client's connections list. An absent record does not prove direct routing. Check System Proxy and app settings first; use the device guide if TUN is needed.

Claude Code proxy setup: Mac / Linux terminals

A working browser does not establish the terminal's route. For Claude Code CLI launched from zsh / bash, first check your client's local HTTP or mixed listening port, then set the variables and start Claude in that terminal. A subscription URL is not a proxy address.

Claude Code documents HTTP / HTTPS proxy support, without direct SOCKS support. The example uses a local HTTP listener. The name HTTPS_PROXY does not require that listener's address to begin with https://.

export HTTPS_PROXY="http://127.0.0.1:7890"
export HTTP_PROXY="$HTTPS_PROXY"
claude
zsh / bash: replace 7890 with the client's actual HTTP or mixed port. Applies to this shell and its child processes without editing system configuration. Exit the running Claude Code session and relaunch from this terminal; an existing process will not pick up later shell-variable changes.

Claude Code proxy setup: Windows PowerShell

PowerShell does not use export. Check the Windows client's HTTP or mixed port, then run this example in the PowerShell window used to launch Claude Code. For WSL, containers or remote servers, check proxy reachability in that environment; its 127.0.0.1 may not refer to the Windows client.

$env:HTTPS_PROXY = "http://127.0.0.1:7890"
$env:HTTP_PROXY = $env:HTTPS_PROXY
claude
PowerShell: replace 7890 with the actual listening port. These assignments affect this PowerShell process and subsequently launched child processes. The example does not create permanent system settings.

Still timing out? Check these four things

Keep the working browser connection and record each check. These checks require neither a new plan nor an API key or full subscription URL.

  1. Listening portKeep the client running and use its HTTP or mixed listener. Do not substitute a subscription URL, remote node port or SOCKS-only port.
  2. Existing proxy variablesClaude Code documents this precedence: https_proxy, HTTPS_PROXY, http_proxy, HTTP_PROXY. Check whether an older value takes priority; redact any embedded proxy credentials from screenshots.
  3. NO_PROXY exclusionsCheck whether NO_PROXY / no_proxy excludes the target host or all requests. Preserve required internal-network exceptions rather than clearing a managed network configuration.
  4. Launch environment and failure stageLaunch Claude Code from the environment you configured and record whether login, connection or a returned request fails. A browser exit lookup cannot establish the terminal route; use client connection records and the actual error.

Check Cursor, GitHub Copilot and API errors separately

Terminal settings do not automatically configure every desktop app or extension. In Cursor, run Settings → Network → Run Diagnostics; follow each extension's own network documentation. For responses such as 401, 403, 429 or 529, keep the response body and use the provider's authentication, permission, rate-limit or overload guidance.

When it isn't the network

ChatGPT, Claude and other platforms set their own supported regions and account rules, based on where you actually are. Choosing a US node doesn't change those rules.

Sign-in, payment and identity issues are handled on the provider's own pages. NailongVPN doesn't sell third-party accounts or include AI plans or API credits.

One US static IP per person

NailongVPN provides US datacenter static IPs: one per person, kept long term and never shared. Works with Shadowrocket, Clash Verge Rev and FlClash, one subscription for phone and computer.

Questions

Can a different node make the model smarter?

No. The network only affects whether you connect and how fast. It doesn't change the model, your allowance or your plan.

Does NailongVPN include ChatGPT Plus or a Claude plan?

No. We provide the connection only. AI plans and API credits are bought from the provider.

Does Gemini need the same setup?

The Gemini web app and mobile apps work in Hong Kong on a local connection. See the Gemini guide.
