The web app and mobile apps work in Hong Kong
Google's Gemini help centre lists Hong Kong and Macau as available locations; mainland China is listed for Google Workspace accounts only. With a personal Google Account you can open gemini.google.com or install the Gemini app on a Hong Kong connection. No separate network service is needed.
If Gemini says it is unavailable after you sign in, Google says the cause can be your location, age or account type. Check whether you are using a personal, school or work account, then read the matching section below.
| Service | Hong Kong | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini web app / mobile apps | Available | Personal accounts: age 13 or over |
| Google AI Plus / Pro / Ultra | Can subscribe | Prices shown by location; check Google One |
| Google's 2026 free student offer | Not available | Excluded locations include Hong Kong and Macau |
| Gemini API / Google AI Studio | Not an available region | AI Studio also requires age 18 or over |
| School Google Workspace accounts | Set by the school | Must be enabled by the school's administrator |
Account type and age
Google requires personal and school accounts using the Gemini app to be 13 or the applicable local age. Hong Kong is not among Google's listed age exceptions, so 13 applies. Work accounts managed by a company or organisation follow separate rules set by their administrator.
For school accounts on Google Workspace for Education, the school's administrator must enable Gemini, and available features vary by age group. If a school account cannot sign in, contact your school's IT team. Changing networks does not replace an administrator setting.
Google AI plans: prices follow your location
Opened from Hong Kong on 20 October 2026, Google One's AI plans page showed Hong Kong SAR prices: Google AI Plus at HK$38 a month, Google AI Pro at HK$158 a month and Google AI Ultra from HK$799 a month. Prices and plan contents can change, so check the page when you subscribe.
Google's 2026 free student offer does not cover Hong Kong; its terms list Hong Kong and Macau as excluded locations. Students in Hong Kong can use the free Gemini tier, subscribe at Hong Kong prices or use AI services provided by their school.
Region limits for the Gemini API and AI Studio
The official available-regions list for the Gemini API and Google AI Studio does not include Hong Kong or Macau, and AI Studio requires users to be 18 or over. A working Gemini app does not mean the API is available; Google publishes separate terms and region lists for each.
Calls from outside the listed regions return a location-not-supported error. Students building AI projects in Hong Kong can first check the models and allowance in their school's GenAI API before choosing another platform.
When to check your network settings
Using the Gemini web app or mobile apps in Hong Kong does not need a US exit or any proxy. With a VPN on, Google sees the VPN exit's location. If the region, language or available features look wrong, turn the VPN off and try again on your local connection.
Gemini itself is available in Hong Kong, so you do not need a network plan for it. Other AI tools have different supported regions; check each platform's current official information before using a personal account.
