Claude account safety

How to lower the risk of a suspension, what to check when Claude won't connect, and how to appeal. A five-minute read.

The short version

  1. Keep one IP. Don't hop.An account that jumps between countries, or switches node every few minutes, is the easiest way to trip a review. Pick one node and stay on it.
  2. Don't share an IP or an accountShared proxy IPs may already carry other people's history. One person, one IP, one account.
  3. Use your own detailsYour own email and your own payment method. If asked to verify your identity, submit genuine information.
  4. Suspended? Appeal officiallyChanging IP or clearing your cache won't lift a suspension, and neither will a VPN.

Five habits that lower the risk

Know this first: Anthropic decides eligibility by where you physically are; a US IP doesn't change that rule. Check the official supported regions first.

  1. Use a fixed static IPConnect through the same node every time. NailongVPN gives each person their own US datacenter static IP that stays the same.
  2. Send every device through the same exitRun the same proxy on your phone and computer. Don't have one device in Hong Kong and another in the US.
  3. Use your own email and paymentDon't buy shared accounts or use unknown mirror sites. One person's violation on a shared account affects everyone on it.
  4. Answer identity checks honestlyAn identity check doesn't mean your IP is bad; it's routine. Submit genuine information on the official page.
  5. Use the official API for third-party toolsNever hand your login token or browser cookies to an unknown tool.

Won't connect? Check three things

  1. Is the proxy on and the plan active?Open Shadowrocket or Clash. Make sure it's connected, the plan hasn't expired and data remains.
  2. Which exit IP are you on?Open the IP check page. It should show the US, and the same address each time.
  3. Is Claude going through the proxy?Refresh Claude while watching the client's connections list and check the matched rule and node. An absent record does not prove direct routing: first check System Proxy, app settings and client logs. Follow the device guide if TUN is needed.

When Claude Code won't connect

A working browser doesn't mean your terminal uses the proxy. Claude Code reads the HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY variables and doesn't accept a SOCKS address.

export HTTPS_PROXY="http://127.0.0.1:7890"
export HTTP_PROXY="$HTTPS_PROXY"
claude
Mac / Linux zsh or bash example; replace 7890 with the actual HTTP port. Common ports are 7890 or 7897; use the one your client's settings show. If you've set NO_PROXY, make sure it doesn't include anthropic.com.

If your account is suspended

  1. Make sure it's really a suspensionRead the email or on-screen notice. A region notice or a failed connection is not a suspension.
  2. Sign in and open the official appealOnly the official appeal can restore the account. Changing IP, clearing caches or paying someone won't.
  3. Explain briefly and truthfullyInclude the account email, the date of the notice, and whether you used the website, Claude Code or the API.

One US static IP per person

NailongVPN provides US datacenter static IPs: one per person, kept long term and never shared. Works with Shadowrocket, Clash Verge Rev and FlClash, one subscription for phone and computer.

From HK$29 / 30 days · 100–500 GiB of data · One-time payment, no auto-renewal

Questions

Do I need a residential IP?

Not necessarily. What matters more than residential versus datacenter is that the IP is fixed, used only by you, and not switched often. A residential IP doesn't guarantee anything either.

If the node name stays the same, is it a static IP?

Not always. Some services keep the node name while rotating a shared exit IP behind it. NailongVPN gives each person one fixed exit IP, which you can confirm on the IP check page.

Can a VPN lift a suspension?

No. A VPN only handles your connection. A suspended account can only be restored through the official appeal, and Anthropic decides the outcome.
